Discover Tulsa's best-kept outdoor secrets! From Turkey Mountain's 50+ miles of trails to ancient cedar forests, explore hidden gems locals love.

Tulsa is well known for its gorgeous outdoor spaces. Tourists frequently visit the Tulsa Zoo and the Botanic Gardens, and indeed, these attractions are great places to relax and take in nature. But they're not all that Tulsa has to offer! Today, our real estate agents are excited to share some lesser-known trails and outdoor adventures that Tulsa locals know and appreciate.

Best Trails and Outdoor Spaces in Tulsa

Turkey Mountain

Address: 6800 S. Elwood Ave., Tulsa, OK 74132

Turkey Mountain is a remote area that offers more than 50 miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking. Most are single-track but well-marked. When you visit, you'll feel like you're truly in nature. Expect to pass a few other people on the trail, but by no means a crowd.

Motor vehicles, including e-bikes, are not permitted at Turkey Mountain. Dogs are allowed if leashed. Please be aware that the natural area follows Leave-No-Trace principles, which means you should plan to pack out all your trash and bag any dog waste.

Gathering Place

Address: 2650 S. John Williams Way E., Tulsa, OK 74114

Located along the waterfront, Gathering Place is a park built to serve as a cornerstone of the Tulsa community. It takes pride in promoting environmentally sustainable practices and inclusivity. The park has even won several awards from USA Today.

Within Gathering Place, there are so many different things to do. You can:

  • Admire installations by local artists
  • Walk the nature trails
  • Let the kids play in the water at the splash zone.

Admission is free, and there are often pop-up events in the park, such as food truck rallies or free concerts.

Keystone Ancient Forest

Address: 160 Ancient First Dr., Sand Springs, OK 74063

About 20 minutes outside Tulsa, the Keystone Ancient Forest is home to some of the oldest cedar trees in the entire nation, some of which are at least 500 years old. Many of the trails in the preserve are ADA-accessible. Visitors often spot wildlife, including turkeys, deer, and even eagles.

The Visitor's Center at Keystone Ancient Forest is climate-controlled and offers a well-stocked gift shop. Pets are allowed on the property during the first and third weekends of the month, but they must be leashed.

Ray Harral Nature Center & Park

Address: 7101 S. 3rd St., Broken Arrow, OK 74011

If you're in the area looking at Broken Arrow homes for sale, stop by Ray Harral Nature Center & Park to spend some quiet time outdoors. This 40-acre park encompasses a system of natural springs, which you'll see when traversing the trails. There are plenty of benches where you can stop and rest, if needed.

Ray Harral Nature Center & Park also features a pollinator garden filled with native flowers. The Nature Center itself is home to incredible creatures like tarantulas and turtles; it's a great educational resource for kids and adults alike.

Lubell Park Trails

Address: 2910 W 53rd St., Tulsa, OK 74107

Whether you're new to mountain biking or have been at it your whole life, the Lubell Park Trails are well worth a visit. They weave through 40 acres of wooded land and are well-suited to hikers and mountain bikers alike. There's a 2.2-mile beginner's loop that's nice for kids or a more casual ride.

In addition to trails, Lubell Park has:

  • A playground
  • A lookout deck
  • Wetlands where waterbirds tend to flock.
  • A paved walking path

We hope you enjoy visiting these hidden Tulsa trails and outdoor spaces. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you're still looking for Tulsa homes for sale. Our agents are happy to guide you.
